The Ohio must convert to digital projection by 2013 or CLOSE.
Movies in the Digital Age...
The movie industry is rapidly switching from traditional 35mm film to digital. 75% of American theatres have already upgraded to digital equipment. By early 2013, movies will no longer be available in 35mm film.
The Ohio Theatre must convert its projection and sound equipment to digital by 2013 or else close!
Why save the Ohio…
Since 1938, the Ohio Theatre has been at the heart of historic downtown Madison, Indiana, entertaining generations with movies current and classic, as well as live plays and concerts.
Plus, downtown businesses depend on the crowds attending the Ohio.
Small town theatres are becoming more rare. Many more will close due to the digital revolution, so it is vital that Madison keep the Ohio Theatre alive for the generations to come!
Going digital…
Going digital will bring a whole new realm of entertainment to Madison. You will watch ultra-sharp films with high quality digital sound. 3-D will pop off the screen and we can feature innovative content from Broadway shows to live concerts.
Here is what the upgrade entails:
- New digital projection systems, including 3-D
- New digital sound systems
- New screens
- Wiring, networking, venting and other infrastructure

changes needed to support the new equipment
We will not be removing the old 35mm equipment and will maintain the ability to show film if the need arises.
We've broken up the project into two phases:
- Phase One is to complete conversion of the Main Floor to digital by November.
- Phase Two to convert the Balcony House will happen in early 2013.
The cost…
The digital upgrade cost will be $85,000 for the Main Floor Auditorium and an additional $65,000 for the Balcony Auditorium. The total cost is $150,000.
The Ohio Theater is a family-owned small business. We do not have the corporate backing of the major chains to make this transition on our own.
The solution... YOU !
YOU, the friends and moviegoers of the Ohio Theatre!
Together, we can make the transition and here is how you can help!
Fundraising Campaign
Our first goal is to raise at least $25,000 for a down payment on the Main Auditorium conversion. In August we raised almost $11,000, and we are continuing the campaign until we reach our goal.
We have partnered with the Ohio Theatre's resident live theatre group Little Grand Theatre Company to utilize its Vendini internet ticketing service for you to use to enter contributions.

YOU Can Be a Digital Finance Partner …

The return on investment will be far greater than anything you could earn in CDs or stocks. Plus you'll have the reward of knowing you helped save the Ohio Theatre for all the Madison area to enjoy!
Our Goal is have the remaining $60,000 of financing for the Main Auditorium conversion in place by Mar 31, 2013.
